Asif appears before PCB's fact finding committee

By Staff

Lahore, Jul 26 (UNI) Controversial fast bowler Mohammad Asif has recorded his statement regarding what happened at the Dubai airport that led to his 19-day detention before the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) internal fact-finding committee.

The 25-year-old appeared before the committee headed by PCB chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi yesterday. A session of questions and answers was also held, which lasted for almost 90 minutes.

''We heard Asif's version on the issue today,'' Naghmi told mediapersons after the meeting.

''I will not go into the details of the hearing but basically Asif has pleaded his innocence. However, we will go through all the aspects before preparing our report,'' he added.

Naghmi said the committee is likely to submit its findings to the Board on July 28, after which PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf will announce whether any action has to be taken against Asif.

Asif, who was held at the Dubai airport from June 1 to 20, is facing a ban for allegedly carrying a banned substance.

He is also facing a life ban after failing a dope test carried out during the IPL in May.
