Amarnath land protests continue in Jammu
Jammu, July 26 : Protests continue in Jammu, which is reeling under a shutdown call given by the Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SASS) over Amarnath land row.
Protesters took to the streets shouting slogans against the government.
On Friday, furious agitators protesting against the revocation of land allotted to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), burnt vehicles and pelted stones after curfew was lifted.
Authorities had clamped curfew on Thursday in view of high tension following the suicide of an activist of the Sangharsh Samiti.
The incident triggered off spontaneous protests by the activists of the Samiti and other organizations.
At least 27 persons, including 12 policemen, were injured as police clashed with protesters during the shutdown.
Samiti activists have been demanding removal of the State Governor N.N.Vohra for allegedly surrendering the responsibility of running the affairs of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board to the Government and for returning forestland that was allotted to the board.
The State Government on July 1 had revoked its order transferring land to the SASB by taking over the responsibilities of taking care of Amarnath pilgrims.
