AIMIM MLA opens fire in air, arrested
Hyderabad, Jul 26 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the Abids area in the city when All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Afsar Khan opened fire in the air with his licensed revolver, obstructing the demolition of 'illegal' buildings by Municipal authorities at the Chapel Road here today.
Police said AIMIM MLAs Afsar Khan and Mozamn Khan, who represented Karwan and Asif Nagar constituencies respectively, came to the demolition site along with some party workers.
When the Municipal authorities did not pay heed to the AIMIM leaders' demand to stop the demolition works, Mr Afsar Khan opened fire in the air. Police rushed to the spot and took him into custody.
Meanwhile, the 'angered' AIMIM workers staged dharna in front of the Abids Zone police station and forcibly closed the shops in the area.
The Municipal Authorities and the MLAs were holding talks to amicably settle the issue regarding the demolition of buildings.
Additional forces were deployed in the area, police added.
