Ahmedabad, Jul 26 (UNI) At least 10 people were killed and 70 others injured, some of them seriously, as high intensity serial bomb blasts rocked the city today.
According to preliminary reports, the first bomb was exploded in Maninagar area, the constituency of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, in a municipal transport bus, at about 1845 hours.
Nearly 11 blasts at different places -- Maninagar, Sarkhej, Ishanpur, Naroda, Sarangpur, Khadia, and Thakkar Bapanagar -- in the city took place between 1845 hrs and 1930 hrs.
The bombs were mostly planted on the buses of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) an aim to get maximum casualities. They took place during the peak hours in the evening.
Acting promptly, the civic authorities have stopped plying of all the city transport buses.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has condemned the serial blasts and urged the people of the state to maintain peace and communal harmony in the state.
State Home Minister Amit Shah has confirmed three blasts and announced red alert in the state.
All dead and injured have been shifted to various hospitals like civil hospital, L G Hospital, V S Hospital and other health clinics of the city.
The telephone connectivity was jammed as the people tried frantically to call the near and dear ones to know about their whereabouts and well being.
A TV channel claimed that it had received an email from a user, identifying himself as a member of 'Indian Mujahuddin', stating that city will be rocked with serial bomb blasts.
