Raipur, July 25 (UNI) Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today said that Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee should quit his office in response to the directive of the Communist Party of India(Marxist).
Mr Chatterjee, who was elected on CPI(M) ticket, should obey his party directive without delay as he was not above the party, Mr Naidu told reporters here.
Pointing out that the Speaker must rise above party politics, Mr Naidu said it was not important as to which practices we should follow, but we must abide by Indian traditions.
''Mr Chatterjee must not forget that former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had also supported him for the post of Speaker'', he said when asked about the Speaker's anti-BJP comment prior to the trust vote in the Lok Sabha.
