NHPC Teesta Stage V resumes power generation
Gangtok, Jul 25 (UNI) The 510 MW NHPC Teesta Stage V of hydro electric power project at Balutar, East Sikkim, resumed its power generation from today after one and half months of lying idle and suffering crores of losses.
'' Power generation works are in progress from today,'' an NHPC spokesperson told UNI.
Fully commissioned on March 29 earlier this year, NHPC had suspended power production at Teesta Stage V project from June 12 when heavy flooding in the river Teesta clogged the reservoir at Dikchu with silt and eroded away the protection wall for the reservoir.
Following this, NHPC had suspended power generation and started restoration works on a warfooting.
Though losses suffered by NHPC due to power generation suspension over the past one and half months are reported to be crores, the company spokesperson said that the losses cannot be calculated at the moment.
The losses will come to light only at the end of the financial year when the targeted production is tallied against the output volume, he said.
NHPC also did not ruled out extra generation of power to offset the losses.
