Govt taking all efforts on medical seat quota: Minister
Puducherry, Jul 25: The administration is taking all efforts to get the same number of medical seats in private medical colleges here as given last year as government quota,Health and Labour Minister E Valsaraj said here on Friday, July 25.
Talking to newspersons after releaseing an industrial souvenir, Mr Valsaraj said six of the seven private medical colleges had agreed to provide the same number of seats as last year. Only the Lakshminarayana Medical College was refusing the request of the government since it had obtained deemed university status. It was not mandatory to provide government quota in deemed universities, he said and added the government was holding talks with them.
He also said the total number of medical seats in all the colleges here sans the deemed universities was 550 and the government had to get 275. However, the government had obtained 311 seats last year, he added.
