Gautam Buddha varsity to give scholarship for studies abroad
Lucknow, Jul 25 (UNI) Facilitating the higher studies in foreign universities, Uttar Pradesh government today announced to give scholarship to meritorious students in the state-owned Gautam Buddha University.
Announcing this unique proposition for the students on merit belonging to Schedule Castes and Below Poverty Line (BPL) categories at a press conference here, Chief Minister Mayawati said the scholarship could be availed of on merit for higher studies in the European universities.
'' This is for the first time in the country that any university would be providing scholarship to the students for higher studies abroad'', she claimed.
The Chief Minister said the Gautam Buddha University at Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) was already giving all benifits to the SC and poor meritorious students of all section of the society.
The Gautam Buddha University, the brain child of Ms Mayawati, was set up in 2002 to impart post graduate and technical courses.
Meanwhile, in another decision, the government on the demand of the traders have decided to waive interest and penalty on the arrears of trade tax before the implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT) regime from January 1, 2008.
Ms Mayawati said now the traders will not have to pay interest and penalty on the pending arrears of the trade tax before the enforcement of VAT in the state.
