Jammu, Jul 25 (UNI) At least 20 people were arrested and over a dozen injured in police-public clashes in different parts of the city over the death of a Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (AYSS) protestor, who allegedly committed suicide on July 23.
The protestors took to the streets in the morning and fought with the security forces expressing anger over the death of Kuldeep Kumar Dogra, who was a protestor representing in chain hunger strike of the Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti.
The furious mob pelted stones and set police vehicle on fire forcing police and the CRPF personnel to resort to cane-charge in which at least ten people were injured.
Over a dozen people were arrested from the old city area where locals pelted stones and glass bottles while police fired teargas shells and rubber bullets to disperse the mob.
Meanwhile, protests rocked the bordering Bishnah area, the native village of Kuldeep Dogra. The people burnt tyres, blocked roads and thrashed the policemen.
Four people were also arrested for setting police vehicle on fire while five got injured as police chased the protestors.
The protest started in winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir after a youth of the AYSS chain hunger strike allegedly committed suicide at the site of agitation at parade ground.
The AYSS had announced a week-long agitation demanding revocation of nearly 40 hectares of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and removal of governor N N Vohra.
