Kakinada, July 25 (UNI) About 100 CPI workers, including the party city unit Secretary T Madhu, were arrested when they tried to occupy the vacant land measuring six acres belonging to the Endowments Department on the city outskirts today.
The situation turned tense when the police intervened to remove the tents and huts put up by the demonstrators, numbering over 1,000 since early morning.
The demonstrators were demanding allocation of house sites to them and insisted on spot assurance from the officials. They did not budge even when Tahasildar Sattiraju repeatedly told them that their cause would be favourably considered in due course.
