SP contemplating action against its six MPs
New Delhi, Jul 24 (UNI) The Samajwadi Party(SP) is contemplating action against those MPs who had violated the party whip in the Lok Sabha by voting against the Confidence Motion on July 22.
''We are taking legal opinion before serving any notice on the defectors,''chief whip of SP in the House Mohan Singh told UNI.
As many as six SP MPs had crossed floor on July 22. Their choice was already well known much before the trust motion was moved in the House.
SP is the only party which has so far not taken any action against its MPs who had voted against the party whip in the trust vote sought by the UPA Government on the issue of nuclear deal.
In fact, there is a thinking in the party that action against the defectors would not affect them much at this stage.
''There is not much point in expelling these MPs as the elections were very close and the decision of the Speaker will take a long time to come. Even after the Speaker's decision, someone can go to court and challenge it,'' a senior SP leader said.
The BJP yesterday expelled eight of its MPs from the party with immediate effect.
The Janata Dal has expelled one of its MPs and the TDP two who did cross voting.
