Mumbai, Jul 24 (UNI) The Shiv Sena has expelled MP Tukaram Renge Patil from the party for defying its whip and voting for the UPA government in the Confidence motion.

The announcement to this effect was made in the Sena mouthpiece Saamna today.

Mr Patil, a Shiv Sena MP from Parbhani in Maharashtra, had abstained during the confidence motion of Manmohan Singh Government on July 22, defying the party whip.

It may be recalled that Tukaram Renge Patil was the lone MP, who was not present at a meeting of the party's MPs, called at the residence of Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray two days before the vote on the confidence motion.

Mr Patil is the third Sena MP from Parbhani constituency, who had ditched the party after getting elected. The other two were Ashok Deshmukh and Suresh Jadhav.
