Opposition targets DGP and two other top cops
Mumbai, Jul 24 (UNI) Senior Shiv Sena leader and former home minister Gajanan Kirtikar today made serious allegations against Maharashtra's Director Geneal of Police A N Roy and two other top cops.
''Mr Roy had helped gutkha king Rasiklal Manikchand Dhariwal while he was commissioner in Pune and had strictures against him by CBI, but were removed to make him eligible as Mumbai Commissioner of Police and then DGP,'' thundered Mr Kirtikar.
''Additional Commissioner of Police Aroop Patnaik and Additional CP Bipin Bihari should be charged for their involvement in the infamous Chaturvedi case,'' he demanded.
Initiating the discussion on law and order situation in the state, the Sena leader came down heavily on deputy chief minister R R Patil, saying that the illegal activities like matka (gambling) dens have been flourishing despite tall claims of action and crime rate in the city is also up.
BJP's Eknath Khadse, while participating in the debate, also criticised Mr Patil for growing incidents of attack on elected representatives and misbehaviour of women by cops.
He said none of the 64 announcements made by Mr Patil in last few months had so far materialised.
