Ahmedabad, Jul 24 (UNI) The National Cadet Corps (NCC) today launched ''Save the girl Child'' campaign in Gujarat in the presence of State Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel.

Lauding NCC for their initiative, Ms Patel said it will definitely benefit to increase girl child ratio.

The Minister said ''The nation cannot progress without the upliftment of women. The state government had launched many schemes towards this.'' Talking about female foeticide, she said ''Sonography was invented to treat patients, but this medical instrument has been misused by the doctors.'' Ms Patel said the female ratio in the state is going up but it still remains an issue, for which the need is to spread awareness.

Brigadier A K Verma, the Deputy Director General of NCC, said the NCC has taken up the initiative across the country. In Gujarat, the camapign will go on in 17 districts starting from today.

In a speech on ''female foeticide'', Cadet Hiral Ravia of No 1 Gujrat Girls Bn NCC said ''At every stage of life, a girl child is discriminated and neglected -- be it education, nutrition or living standards. A day will come when Mother India will have no mothers, potentially no life.'' On the occasion, an oath was taken to make all out efforts to save the girl child.

The Minister then handed banners to Cadets from various districts, which was followed by a rally by girl cadets from the venue to the city this afternoon.
