Guwahati, Jul 24 (UNI) A scientific approach, based on the previous records, and a proper drainage system were the keys to solve the problem of urban flood, National Disaster Management Authority member N Shashidhar Reddy said here.
Talking to newsmen after chairing a meeting on urban flood management yesterday, Mr Reddy said a prolonged strategy was being worked out to tackle urban flood, especially in the capital city of Guwahati.
He informed that the warning system was being enhanced and a comprehensive study to forecast water logging problems was being carried out, based on the comparative analysis of the previous years' informations.
Mr Reddy emphasised on the necessity of a proper and unclogged drainage system for controlling urban flood.
He added the states had been asked to prepare an urban flood management plan way back in 1975, but only a couple of them did it.
The other states are completing their plans only now.
