Shillong, Jul 24 (UNI) The Meghalaya Government today finally decided to abrogate the Memorandum of Agreement (MOAs), inked with two private power companies, to develop power projects of 1100 MW and rewrite MOAs with four other power developers in the state.
Jaypee Group and Athena Project Private Limited, assigned to develop Kynshi stage II and Umngot and Kynshi stage 1 hydro power projects, would be scrapped, Power Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
However, Mr Sangma said the government would rewrite the MOAs with four private companies - ETA Star infrastructure Limited, NEEPCO, SEW Energy Limited and Seven Sisters Energy Limited - developing power projects below 100 MW in the interest of the state.
'' We have decided to scrap the MOAs with Jaypee Group and Athena Project Private Limited, assigned by the previous government to develop power project above 100 MW without following the international competitive bidding, '' Mr Sangma said.
The Power Minister felt that the terms and conditions of the projects, below 100 MW, needed to be reviewed to make it stringent so that maximum benefits reach the people and not these private power companies.
