Inter-state gang of robbers busted

Chandigarh, Jul 24 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, the Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police busted an inter-state gang of notorious robbers by arresting its three members during a raid in the jungle area here today.

However, their three associates managed to escape during the raid carried out on a tip-off when they were planning to commit dacoity in Chandigarh, Senior Superintendent of Police S S Shrivastava said at a press conference here.

Police has launched a manhunt to nab them. Police recovered a short rifle of 315 bore alongwith two live catridges, two sharp-edged weapons from those arrested.

The SSP said during their interrogation, they confessed that after getting bail, the gang members committed more than 50 snatchings and robberies in the tricity of Panchkula, Mohali, Chandigarh.

Earlier, the members of the gang were arrested for committing several robberies and snatchings in the tricity and Uttar Pradesh and were on bail. The gang has now started commiting dacoities, he said.

All the three accused were produced before the court and remanded to police custody till July 29.
