Addressing a press conference here in connection with the launch of its 'Winter 2008 Collection', company Vice-Chairman Sidharth Birla said it would enter the readymade segment either by the end of this year or early next year. ''It's still in the drawing room. Initially, we propose to come out with trousers and suitings before diversifying into other products,'' he said. Stating that the company had no immediate proposal to launch women's wear, he said Digjam suitings were already unisex and the company would soon launch women's corporate wear collections.
Mr Birla said Digjam had a 10,000 strong dealer network and 40 exclusive outlets across the country. It had three exclusive outlets in Tamil Nadu and plans to open three more in Chennai, Coimbatore and Tirupur in the next six months, he added.
He said the winter collection showcased Global Cool, a first of its kind fabric that addressed global warming. The Global cool range was specially treated and made from natural bamboo fibre. The fabric was two degree centigrade cooler than the outside temperature and was priced between Rs 450 and Rs 900 per metre.
Winter 2008 also had Kings Collection, a super premium suit length range. This collection comprised Emperor's choice, King's choice and Royale. The other collections included the Elegance, Classic Jacketing, Irish Tweed, Glimmer, Cardinal, Opulence, Miracle, Linen craft and Falcon ranges, he said.
