New Delhi, Jul 24 (UNI) The Congress today asked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati to say in public if she had faith in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Against the backdrop of Ms Mayawati's attack over the CBI inquiry into the disproportionate assets case against her, AICC Spokesman Manish Tewari told mediapersons that she had referred at least ten cases to the CBI after she became the Chief Minister of the state.
"It is not fair to cry foul when the central agency takes action against her," he said, adding that "If she has no faith in the CBI, she should stop referring cases to it." Mr Tewari said it would not be good to link any action of the CBI to any particular political situation.
He said the CBI was an independent central investigative agency and its independence was ensured by the Supreme Court in the Jain Hawala case.
