New Delhi, Jul 24 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today gave its nod for the creation of the Armed Forces Tribunal, which will allow personnel of the three servies to place their grievances before a specialised body instead of civil courts.
The Tribunal will have 31 posts , including one post of chairperson, one post of Registrar at the Principal Bench, 29 posts of members for the Principal Bench at New Delhi and eight Regional Benches, Information and Broadcasting minister P R Dasmunsi told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
The Tribunal will have exemption from consurtation with UPSC in all matters concerning Group 'A' and 'B' posts that were created to establish it.
The creation of posts wil facilitate the operationalisation of the Armed Forces Tribunal as a independent adjudicating forum, dispensing cost effective and speedy justice to the Armed Forces personnel, fufilling a long pending demand of the three services.
With the creation of the Tribunal, several thousand cases pending in civil courts will be transferred to either the Principal Bench or the Regional Benches.
