Lucknow, Jul 23 (UNI) Claiming that Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav's decision of supporting the UPA government at the Centre had saved the country from disastrous future, the Samajwadi Party today charged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati with using government machinery for purchasing MPs to abstain from voting during the trust vote in Parliament.
''The act of the BSP leader is condemable and has degraded the CM's post'', said the leader of opposition in the state legislative council Ahmed Hassan and state SP spokesperson Rajendra Choudhury.
''The aim of Ms Mayawati was only to grab the Prime Minister's post through undemocratic means and with the help of the communal forces, which had certainly being prevented by the secular forces'', the SP leaders claimed.
Addressing a joint press conference here, Mr Hassan and Mr Choudhury alleged that the BSP tried all its effort to woo the SP MPs through illegal means but they failed to overthrow the UPA government. ''We are thankful to our leaders for supporting the UPA government in order to save the country from certain disastor'', he said.
Mr Hassan also charged Ms Mayawati for trying to create confusion in the minds of the Muslims by terming the nuclear deal as 'anti-muslim'. ''Not even a single Muslim MP during the debate on the vote of confidence had supported the views of Ms Mayawati which proves that she was only trying to fool the minority community for her vote bank politics'', he claimed.
They also alleged that three senior IAS officials of the Chief Minister secretariate were also involved in threatening some SP MPs to seeek their support in favour of Ms Mayawati.
Claiming that anarchy prevails in UP in the BSP regime, the SP leaders maintained that rampant corruption in each and every department of the state government has derailed the development works.
