Security agencies to investigate land transactions in Rajasthan
New Delhi, Jul 23 (UNI) The Centre today reviewed the progress of inquiry and action being taken in regard to the large-scale purchase of land along the international border areas of Rajasthan and decided to ask the security agencies to investigate the money transaction in these deals.
Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta held a meeting at which it was decided that while the State Government will continue with its enquiries and corrective measures, including cancellation of land transactions, wherever necessary, and action against culpable officers, the security and enforcement agencies would take necessary steps to further investigate the individuals and companies and the transactions from the point of view of tax evasion, benami transactions and money laundering, among others.
This was a follow up meeting on the decisions taken and directions given in the Union Home Secretary's earlier meeting held in February, 2008, when large scale land transactions in the border areas of Rajasthan were reported by the media and others. Today's meeting was attended by senior officials from the State Government and from security and enforcement agencies concerned.
