Kathmandu, Jul 23 (UNI) Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Mr Paramanand Jha will be sworn in as the first President and Vice-President respectively of the Republic of Nepal today.
The swearing in ceremony is scheduled to take place at 1500 hrs (local time) at Shital Niwas, the former foreign ministry which is now turned into the Office of the President.
Authorities have decorated Shital Niwas and made preparations to carry out the ceremony in a grand manner as the head of the state has been elected by the people, not like the feudal king of the past.
The President would be sworn in by Chief Justice Kedar Prasad Giri in the presence of Prime Minister, Ministers, officials, Ambassadors, leaders and dignitaries from various sectors.
The President would administer the oath of office and secrecy to Vice-President Parmananda Jha.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has congratulated Dr Yadav on his election as the first President of the Republic of Nepal.
In a statement, he called on all parties to ''cooperate in forming a new government which will carry forward Nepal's peace process.'' China has also congratulated Nepal on the successful election of President.
Speaking at a press conference in Beijing yesterday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said, ''As a good neighbour, friend, and partner of Nepal, China sincerely hopes Nepal will continue its peace process and realise political stability, economic development and national unity.'' Earlier the same day, the US congratulated the Constituent Assembly members and the people of Nepal on the successful presidential election.
