Muslims hail Manmohan Singh on winning trust vote
Mumbai, Jul 23 (UNI) The Muslim community in the metropolis today congratulated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on winning the trust vote in Lok Sabha, saying it signified a ''victory of secularism''.
The Congress-led UPA government had managed to defeat the designs of the ''communal forces'', the community members said.
Maulana Sayed Athar Ali, secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said the victory implied the defeat of communal forces.
''The real face of the Left parties came out in the open, when they tried to dislodge the government with the help of the BJP'', he said.
Shabbir Somji, a member of Khoja Shia Asna Ashri Jamaat, said the victory has come as a much-needed relief to the UPA dispensation. ''When the nuclear deal is operationalised, it will go a long way in solving the power crisis,'' he said.
He pointed out that the country has been also relieved of the burden of early elections. ''The UPA can now finish its incomplete work,'' he added.
J B Bedar Kaanchwala, the secretary of minority education trust, offered floral tributes at a shrine in Mumbai after the UPA government won the trust vote. ''We are happy that the Congress-led government has survived,'' he said.
