Karunanidhi leaves for New Delhi
Chennai, Jul 23: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi left for New Delhi by air, on Wednesday, July 23 morning. He was accompanied by his cabinet colleagues -- Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy and Food Minister E V Velu.
State ministers, including M K Stalin, Duraimurugan, K Ponmudy, Subha Thangavelan, Thangam Thennarasu, K N Nehru and I Periasamy, besides of party workers saw him off at the airport here. Mr Karunanidhi's visit to the National Capital assumes significance as it comes a day after the Manmohan Singh government, of which the DMK is a key ally, won the trust vote in Lok Sabha.
During his visit, Mr Karunanidhi is expected to take up with the Centre a host of issues concerning the state, including the power shortage, the fishermen's concern and the Hogenakkal drinking water project, which neighbouring Karnataka has termed as illegal.
