Ahmedabad, Jul 23 (UNI) A convention held here today against sexual harassment of girl students and women, against the background of an increase of such incidents in the state, demanded immediate implementation of Vishakha Recommendation of Supreme Court, at all educational institutions and workplaces.
The convention was jointly organised by All India Save Education Committee, All India Mahila Sanskrtik Sanghathan and All India Democratic Students organisation.
In the convention, a committee was formed to monitor the sexual harassment in the educational instituions and work places of the state, since Women are not safe anywhere whether she is at home, school, college or workplace.
A long term social, cultural movement is inevitable so as to stop such incidents in totality, according to the convention.
The convention was addressed by Ms Ilaben Pathak, Ms Mallikaben Sarabhai and others, including students speakers from the state universities, who adopted a draft resolution, which will be send to the state government as a memorandum.
Some of the demands of the convention are the State Government should immediately publish white paper on formation of such 'Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee' in all educational institutions, Amend State Government employees Service (Conduct) Rules to incorporate the provision for prohibition of sexual harassment of working women and immediate punishment to such culprits.
