Tiruchirapalli, Jul 23: The district administration has rescued 18 child labourers working in various firms in and around the city recently.
District Collector T Soundiah said in a release here on Wednesday, July 23, that a team of labour department officials had conducted surprise raids in these firms on July 16 and 17 and rescued the child labourers. The children were handed over to their parents, with strict warning. He said cases had been filed against some people for engaging child labourers. If they were proved guilty, they would be liable to pay a fine of Rs 20,000, besides undergoing one year imprisonment.
