Kolkata, Jul 22 (UNI) CPI(M) state secretary and Left Front Chairman Biman Bose today said after the left parties withdrew support to the Congress-led UPA government, the Lok Sabha Speaker issue had lost its relevance.
'' The Speaker was not elected from the Opposition parties. The Left parties had selected Mr Somnath Chatterjee as Lok Sabha Speaker as per the Congress requests,'' Mr Bose told newspersons here.
'' But after the Leftists withdrew support from the Government, the issue of Speaker Mr Chatterjee's resignation from the post had lost its relevance,'' he said.
''Today is the black day of Indian Parliamentary democracy as huge money had been spent for purchasing of MPs and it was done by the Government for winning the trust vote,'' he maintained.
The Centre should investigate the whole issue and punish the guilty, he demanded.
''We are strongly condemning the demand of a neighbouring state's MP that in lieu of support to the Government in the trust vote, the three districts of West Bengal to be included in Jharkhand region and head office of Coal India and DVC shifted in that state,'' the state secretry said.
'' Our campaign against the Nuke deal and price hike will continue in all the districts and the district committees will organise mass rallies and meetings from August 11 to 19,'' he said.
