London, July 22 : Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson has said that Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo would be making a silly mistake by moving to Real Madrid. Fergie has already told Ronaldo that he must complete the remaining four years of his contract.
"The worst thing he could do is go to Real Madrid. At 23, he's at a top-rate club, a fantastic football club," The Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying.
"And, he signed a five-year contract last year so has four years left. I know - I've seen his signature. He knows genuinely what the best club is for him - and it's Manchester United," he added.
United are in South Africa on a pre-season tour and tonight play Orlando Pirates in Durban.
Midfielder Michael Carrick also supports Fergie's sentiments on United.
Carrick said: "United is the best place in the world to be. The team is moving in the right direction and moving here was the best thing I've ever done."
