Freedom fighter passes away
Darbhanga, Jul 22 (UNI) Veteran freedom fighter Taranand Singh died here yesterday after a protracted illness. He was 103.
Mr Singh, also president of Darbhanga Freedom Fighters Association, had participated in the historic Quit India Movement in August 1942 and spent long years behind bars in Bhagalpur jail.
Mr Singh was honoured by former President A P J Abdul Kalam at a function in New Delhi in 2006 in recognition of his significant contribution to the freedom movement.
Among others, Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development Ali Ashraf Fatmi, as well as former cricketer Kirti Azad, condoled Mr Singh's death.
