Eight killed in two road accidents in AP

Visakhapatnam, Jul 22 (UNI) Eight people, including three tribal women, were killed and 38 others injured in two road accidents in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts of Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours.

According to reports received by the police here, seven people were killed and 35 injured when the front tyre of the mini van in which they were travelling got deflated and the vehicle overturned into the roadside fields at Peddapeta village in Srikakulam district.

Police said the 45 tribals had hired the vehicle to go to the fields to launch 'Podu' farming when the mishap occurred.

State Forests Minister S Vijaya Rama Raju visited the injured tribals and promised to provide a compensation to the victims.

In another accident, a car driver was killed on the spot and three other occupants of the car were injured when a speeding lorry, coming in the wrong direction, rammed into their vehicle on the national highway at Kanimetta village in Vizianagaram district.

The injured were admitted to various Government Hospitals in the two districts.
