Clashes in Malegaon, police resort to firing to control mob
Nashik, Jul 22 (UNI) Police resorted to firing to disperse supporters of two Janata Dal activists fighting over a petty issue in Malegaon.
Five people were injured in this clash and 21 accused have been arrested.
According to sources, one Shaikh Mushraf Shaikh Shabbir had taken his motorbike for servicing at a service centre in Piwla Pump area last evening. The pump-owner Zulfikar Ahmed Iliyas demanded Rs 30 for servicing. Which Shaikh refused to pay, as he considered the amount was too much and showed willingness to pay only Rs 20.
However, Iliyas refused to take anything less than Rs 30.
Following this, they started quarreling. The quarrel reached to police and they brought the two to Ayeshanagar police station.
While, the police was busy listening to both of them, supporters of the two clashed with each other. where weapons such as swords, choppers, wooden batons were used.
To control the situation, police first resorted to lathi charge and later fired. Only then, the clashing groups dispersed. Police seized five swords, two choppers and other weapons from a car.
The situation was under control till last reports reached.
