SLC refrains from ICC security briefing

By Staff

Dubai, Jul 21 (UNI) The ICC security briefing meeting was held to discuss the fate of Pakistan as host for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan but surprisingly, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board did not send any representative for the meeting despite being confirmed as an alternative venue.

''We are hosting the important home series against India and the same security arrangement will be in place here if the Champions Trophy is awarded to us (which looks unlikely at this time),'' SLC CEO Duleep Mendis said from Colombo.

The PCB was represented by Shafqat Naghmi (COO) and Ahmed Farrukh (Champions Trophy Director).

''It was only a meeting for security briefing. No final decision on venue, if to be shifted was to be taken in this meeting,'' said Brian Murgatroyd, ICC Manager (Media and Communications).

''The final decision has to be only taken by the Board members,'' he added.

Not only the board members of eight Champions Trophy participating teams (Australia, India, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa and West Indies) will decide about the issue but the Executive Board made up of one representative each of full member country and three representatives elected by the Associate Members will discuss the issue.

''To move Champions Trophy out of Pakistan, the votes of seven full members will be required,'' added Murgatroyd.
