Rodrigues for removal of bottlenecks in implementation of decisions

Chandigarh, Jul 21 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator, General (Retd.) S F Rodrigues, today directed officers of the Union Territory Adminsitration to remove bottlenecks in the speedy implementation of decisions.

He was listening to grievances of people in Public Hearing Session at the UT Secretariat and ordered prompt action be taken in a time bound manner on the matters concerning people.

He noted with concern that the directions issued by him in the last Public Hearing Sessions were yet to be implemented due to bureaucratic hurdles and unnecessary procedural impediments.

He made it clear that whatever relief could be given under the provisions of law and administrative norms should be delivered in the shortest possible time.

Problems of handicapped, visually impaired and mentally retarded children and issues of encroachments, sanitation, allotment of land for playground of a private school were raised at the public hearing session.

General Rodrigues, on the request of a community leader asked the Deputy Commissioner to ensure that no liquor vend functioned near schools, colleges and other educational institutions.

Appreciating the concern of the community leader for environment, the Administrator told him that the Administration had already launched a programme of planting one million trees in the Union Territory and there was a need of making it a mass movement. He appealed to political parties and social activists to join in this social cause and make the city clean and green. He asked social voluntary organizations to extend their support and partnership in various programmes undertaken by the administration for improving the living conditions.
