Varanasi, Jul 21 (UNI) Lakhs of devotees from different parts of the country today visited the famous Baba Vishwanath temple and other Shiva temples to pay obeisance on the occasion of the first Monday of Shrawan month.
The Mondays of the shrawan month have special significance and lakhs of devotees from different parts of the country visit the holy city to worship Lord Shiva.
The district administration has made tight security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident.
The civil police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) jawans have been garrisoned near the Vishswanath and its adjoining areas.
Besides, policemen in civil clothes were also maintaining close vigil in the area.
A large number of devotees were continuously pouring in the city since yesterday, with rooms in hotels and dharamshalas falling short.
After performing ritual ablution in sacred river Ganga, the devotees did 'jal abhishek' of lord Shiva at Baba Vishswanath temple.
The temple was thronged by the devotees early in the morning, who were eagerly waiting for Baba's darshan.
CCTV have been installed at 21 different points. Besides, doorframe metal detectors at different entry and exit points of the temple have been installed.
The rush of 'kanwarias', who carry sacred water from Allahabad to do the 'jalabhishek' of lord Shiva here, continued.
The darshan and jalabhishekh of Baba Vishswanath was going on peacefully and no untoward incident has been reported so far.
