Apathy forces Pramila to move to Jharkhand

By Staff

Madikeri, Karnataka, Jul 21: Ace athlete Guddanada G Pramila, who is representing the country in Heptathlon along with J J Shobha of Andhra Pradesh and Susmita Singh Roy of West Bengal in the Beijing Olympics, was forced to move to Jharkhand allegedly due to apathy shown by the Karnataka Government.

Pramila, who hails from Kodagu District, said ''I regret that though I was in the field since last 15 years and have brought laurels by winning many national and international tournaments, the Government of Karnataka failed to recognise and encourage me and I am forced to move to Jharkhand.'' Pramila, who participated in the Sydney Olympics, had finished 24th. Being trained under her husband and coach Aiyappa, Pramila is confident of winning medal in Beijing.

Pramila and Susmita Singh Roy qualified for the Beijing Olympics in the recently held National Combined Events in Bangalore. J J Shobha had qualified earlier. Pramila had won silver in Asian Tracks held at Jakarta in 2000. She finished 14th in the International championship held in Canada in 2001.
