New Delhi, Jul 21 (UNI) Despite all the hype ahead of the Beijing Olympics which is scheduled to begin next month, Indian coach Aleksey Yefremov is taking a more long term view and is focusing on the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
''My priority is to prepare ourselves to put up a good performance in the Commonwealth Games, which will be hosted in the Indian capital in 2010. We are working very hard to achieve our target,'' Yefremov said.
The Belarussian stated that Indian paddlers need to participate in more international events in order to improve.
''To perform well in the international arena, we have to play much more international matches, which, I think, will help our paddlers to know about different types of players and their techniques all over the world. These will certainly add to their experience,'' he said.
''Domestic tournaments are good, but internationals are important as well. Table tennis is not a game of reflex only, but of experience also,'' he added.
He also stressed on the importance of grooming a second line of quality paddlers as a back up for the senior team.
''We must have a line up of players to back up the main performers, both of whom should be essentially given international exposure,'' he remarked.
