Dr S S Sidhu sworn in as 14th governor of Goa
Panaji, Jul 21 (UNI) Noted bureaucrat and former Governor of Manipur Shivinder Singh Sidhu was sworn in as the 14th Governor of Goa here today.
He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Swatanter Kumar at 1700 hrs at the Raj Bhavan. He would serve Goa till the remainder of his term.
His predecessor S C Jamir, who had served Goa for four years, was transferred to Maharashtra as its governor recently.
Those present on the occasion included Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, his cabinet colleagues, legislators besides state bureaucrats including Chief Secretary J P Singh, some civilians and military officials.
Dr Sidhu, an IAS of 1952 batch, had worked in different capacities with the Government of India and state governments before being elevated to the gubernatorial position.
He also served as Secretary General of International Civil Aviation Organisation, a wing of the UN at Montreal, during 1988-91.
He had also held special assignments in the Commonwealth Secretariat for evaluation of Commonwealth Fund for Technical Development in Islands of South Pacific Ocean in 1994.
Besides these, Dr Sidhu has authored several books on steel industry, tourism and civil aviation.
