Hyderabad, July 21 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy today said the government has taken all measures to provide crop insurance for khariff season for farmers.
Addressing the press after a review meeting with officials here, Mr Reddy said instructions were issued to all District Collectors to appoint 6,000 enumerators for the purpose. They were asked to hold workshops with the officials concerned in the second week of August to create awareness among the farmers on the benefit of crop insurance.
He said agricultural activities in the state have picked up due to rainfall in the last one week.
Cultivation of paddy, soyabean, cotton and blackgram in various districts and groundnut in Ananthapur District have also picked up.
The Minister said the agricultural university and the agricultural department has taken measures for alternative crops if there were no rainfall before July 31 and by August 15. He said the department has sufficient stock of seeds to go for alternative crops.
He said farmers' loan waiver melas involving Rs 5,631 crore has been completed in 904 mandals benefitting 31 lakh farmers. Remaining mandals will be covered in due course.
The distribution of fertilisers in the state is very encouraging and the Centre has allocated additional quantity of fertilisers for August.
Cloud seeding works will commence in Hyderabad from July 22 and July 24 in various districts, he said.
