TTD to pay Rs 19 crore as tax on human hair
Tirupati, July 20 (UNI) Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is one of the tax evaders of Rs 19 crore on human hair selling by inviting global tenders.
The Vigilance and Enforcement(V&E) Department sources said, TTD, which had approved a budget of Rs 1,925 crore for the fiscal year 2008-09, targeted a revenue of Rs 200 crore by floating global tenders for the sale of hair.
TTD was not paying tax to the Government since last three years.
However, the V and E Department had issued notice to the Commercial Tax Department here for not collecting tax on US Dollar 25 million revenue generated by the TTD from human hair selling every year from auctions conducted at regular intervals.
The Commercial Tax Department had clarified that the TTD was given tax exemption from 2006 on any purchases made by the TTD, as it is not a dealer.
The TTD should collect tax, which is a major income resource to the Government from the bidders or traders, who were participating in the auctions. The tax would not be applicable, if the human hair was exported, sources added.
