Rs.2.60 lakh stolen from CDP Office in Kangra district
Dharamshala, Jul 20 (UNI) The Kangra Police today arrested a driver of Child Development Project Office (CDPO) in this district of Himachal Pradesh for steeling Rs. 2.60 lakh from the official locker of the department during the intervening night of July 17 and 18.
CDPO officials had withdrawn a sum of Rs seven lakh for paying the salaries to anganwari workers of which Rs three lakh rupees were disbursed, Dehra DSP Sita Ram told UNI here.
However, during the intervening night of July 17 and 18, a sum of Rs 2.60 lakh were stolen from the locker, while a sum Rs 1.67 lakh were spared.
He said since police suspected it to be the handiwork of an insider, it investigated and interrogated the office staff following which the officer driver, Tilak Raj, was arrested yesterday.
The driver has accepted his role in the theft, but the stolen cash was yet to be recovered, he said, while not ruling out the possibility of involvement of some other officials of the department.
Mr Ram said a case has been registered and investigations were on.
