Shillong, Jul 20 (UNI) Agitated with the indifference of the Meghalaya Government to fulfil its charter of demands, the Garo Student's Union (GSU) has called for a 12-hour night roadblockade in the three districts of Garo Hills in the state.

The GSU's night roadblockade would start from 1700 hrs to 0500 hrs from July 24 to 26, GSU president Utjol Sangma announced today.

The road blockade would affect the National Highway 62 connecting Garo Hills and Assam.

The tribal student body had given the government a week's time to implement its demands for punishment to the guilty officers, involved in the twin police firing incidents at Garo Hills on September 30, 2005, besides declaring it as a State holiday as a mark of respect to the victims.

Nine people, including women, were killed while scores injured on September 30, 2005 in the twin police firing incident at Tura and Williamnagar over the issue of revamping and restructuring the Meghalaya Board of School Education having its headquarters at Tura, West Garo Hills district.

The GSU also demanded for fresh probe into the Williamnagar incident, alleging that the report submitted by Justice(Retd) D N Baruah was 'incomplete' and 'partial'.
