Thane, Jul 19: World Bank delegations will visit Thane to study its Energy Efficiency.
Members of the World Bank will be in the city on July 22 to hold discussions with the members of the industry here on the ways and means to achieve efficiency in energy utilisation, a statement issued by President of the Thane Small Scale Industries Association President M R Khambete (Appa) here today said.
Mr Khambete, who has organised the meet for the benefit of industries in Thane district, said that the delegation include Jeremy Levin and Dr Chandra Govindrajalu.
Meeting the energy requirements of developing nation like India in a cost effective, sustainable manner is gaining increasing importance with every passing day, Mr Khambete said. Efficient use of energy is one of the sustainable solutions that allow for economic growth, while mitigating green house gas emissions, a key contributor to climate change.
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India, has taken several actions to improve efficiency, and certain progressive Banks including SBI, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Union bank of India have already launched a special scheme for financing of energy efficiency projects in the SME sector.
While banks and institutions in India are willing to finance such EE projects and that the EE projects do offer very attractive pay- back period, it is generally noticed that these projects have not become the norm in Industry, particularly the SME sector. This clearly shows that there are some issues that still need to be addressed to make energy efficiency in SME a reality.
