Kolkata, Jul 19 (UNI) Branding the UPA an ''assurances breaking'' government, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta today said though the Left wanted the completion of the five-year term of the Manmohan Singh regime, it had no option but to pull the plug.

''The Left parties wanted a platform where the government would fight not only against the communal forces, but also to fulfil the people's requirements. Sadly due to the failure of the UPA regime on every front, we had no option but to withdraw support from it,'' Mr Dasgupta told newspersons at a convention here.

He said ''we wanted the UPA government to complete its five-year term and we even backed it over the four years, but the Congress-led alliance was maintaining the BJP-led NDA government's economic policy which we opposed.'' ''The people of the country would not have excused the Left parties, if we had not withdrawn the support from the UPA government,'' he underlined.
