Mysore, Jul 19 (UNI) More than 1400 Pourakarmikas working under contractors, went on a lighting strike suspending sanitation works in the City protesting against delay in disbursement of salaries.
They staged a dharna in the premises of city corporation alleging that the contractors were paying them salaries only around 15th of every month and they were yet to receive their salaries for June.
Office bearers of the pourakarmikas association also alleged that the contractors were refusing to pay a salary of Rs 4000 to those who sweep roads and Rs 5000 to UGD cleaners from April this year as per the agreement reached in the presence of the Corporation Commissioner.
They charged that the contractors were not providing ESI and PF benefits even after deducting the contributions. They contractors had swindled about Rs 35 lakhs paid by pourakarmikas.
However, the agitators withdrew their stir after Commissioner K N Lingappa called on them and assured that he would ask the contractors to pay salaries on time.
