Surat, Jul 19 (UNI) Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah today described the attack on reporters in Ahmedabad yesterday as ''unfair'' and asserted that such attacks cannot be tolerated.
Talking to reporters after inaugurating a police housing society at Udhna, Mr Shah said those responsible for yesterday's assault on journalists would be punished in any circumstances.
He said, ''attack on mediapersons is intolerable and we are trying to trace the forces behind the attack. It is not correct to say that police were absent from the scene and did nothing to save the media representatives.'' Asked about the steps being initiated to nab the culprits behind the death of two children in Ashram of spiritual preacher Asaram Bapu, Mr Shah said the police were investigating the matter and culprits will be punished as per law.
He said, ''We have already initiated a police inquiry into the matter and if attackers were from Ashram, they will not be spared and legal action would be initiated.'' ''Such attacks can never be justified,'' he added.
