Vote after hearing conscience, discretion: Cong
Lucknow, Jul 18 (UNI) With just four days remaining for the crucial vote of confidence for the survival of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, the Congress today appealed to all Lok Sabha members to vote on the voice of their conscience and discretion.
Congress general secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, Digvijay Singh, said most of the MPs particularly the younger generation were individually in support of the civil Nuclear deal and now they should come out openly for the greater national interest.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Singh said all the MPs should vote in the July 22 confidence motion on their 'Vivek' (discretion) and ' Atma Ki Awaj' (voice of conscience).
The Congress general secretary stressed that no party MP will vote against the confidence motion with hinting that the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) might join their 'boat' very soon. ''Dealing with Ajit Singh is a tough issue, but talks were going on,'' he said.
Refuting the charges of horse-trading by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Left parties, Mr Singh said it was the BJP that had tried to strike a deal with the MPs during the presidential poll.
''Congress had never opted such undemocratic step to remain in power,'' he added.
The Congress leader said there were several MPs, who were in touch with the party and the result of their support could be received on D-day.
