Two BDR jawans killed in a gun fight with BSF
Kolkata, Jul 18 (UNI) At least two Bangladesh Rifles personnel were killed in a gun fight with Border Security Force jawans in the India-Bangladesh border of Murshidabad district today when the frontiermen tried to prevent an attempt to smuggle out cattle to the other side.
BSF Director General A K Mitra said a BSF jawan was seriously injured and had been hospitalised.
The incident occurred in the riverine border at Nimtita, about 250 km from here.
The DG said around 1 AM BSF per sonnel were sailing in five boats to nab the cattle smugglers when the BDR personnel suddenly started firing form the dark. This followed a heavy exchange of firing.
'' The BDR claimed two of their men were killed in the firing. Our injured jawan is in a critical condition too, '' Mr Mitra said.
He said a flag meeting was held between the two sides in the afternoon.
