Devotees worship Kanakadurga in 'new avatar'
Vijayawada, July 18 (UNI) About 40,000 devotees here today worshipped Goddess Kanakadurga atop Indrakeeladri Hill in Sakambari Devi Avatar (adorned with variety of vegetabes and fruits).
The devotees were having the glimpse of the goddess in the new avatar since July 16 following the three-day 'Sakambari Devi' Festival being performed by the Kanakadurga Devasthanam during 'Ashada Masam.' Many devotees offered vegetables to the goddess before darshan with some of them giving donations to the devasthanam for purchasing vegetables.
During the festival period, vegetables would be given as 'prasadam' for the devotees, temple sources told UNI here.
Special pujas were performed to the goddess by the temple priests besides 'Chandi Homam' and 'Veda Pathanam' (recitation of vedas) being organised as a part of the festival, the sources added.
