Srinagar, Jul 18 (UNI) Dawn-to-dusk restrictions have been extended in the entire frontier district of Kupwara where the five-km border belt remained under curfew for the past about two decades to curb militant movement and infiltration from across the border.
Official sources said Kupwara District Magistrate has extended Section 144 CrPC in the district for two months with immediate effect.
As per the notification, the restrictions will remain in force from 2230 hrs to 003 hrs in the district.
Sources said the essential services have been exempted from the restrictions while in the border sector, it will remain in force from 2000 hrs to 005 hrs.
They said the restriction has been extended to prevent militants from moving from one place to another during the night, taking advantage of darkness.
The authorities have advised the people that to move out during the restriction period, they should hold a lantern or any other light to avoid any incident.
More than a dozen persons were killed due to security force firing on civilians who came out of their homes during nights in the past.
